Team WTF?! returned to Ripken Stadium last Saturday for the second Autocrossers, Inc. event of the season to compete in three classes: B Stock, BSP and STX. It was something of an event with wheels, and cones, and stuff flying every which way and all, but it was great fun for all of Team WTF?! Aberdeen may be as close to a third world country as some of us will ever see (thinking the "best dressed autocrosser here, Nick Rubenstein"), but it sure as hell beats that stupid EFFing state .
In the B Stock Team WTF?! RX-8, despite doing things like forgetting to check tire pressures, leaving the AC on during runs, forgetting which way to go in a slalom with pointers and the like, Clyde ran away from the rest of the class on his second run. "You do what you have to do," Clyde said. "Sure, I could have driven faster, but I didn't want to embarrass the the other guys in the class. This sport is supposed to be about having fun...and I know all too well about how little fun it is to get your ass kicked." He scratched his chin for a moment. "WTF?! was I thinking?"
In B Street Prepared, Nick had a little more luck than last week at FedEx Field against codriver Bobbie Boykin, coming in first place and beating Bobbie by nearly half a second as they continue to practice for next week's Pro Solo in DC. "You see," Nick explained with his hands, "this was always part of my plan. Last week was just to get familiar with the subtle characteristics and nuances of Bobbie's car. I spent all week mentally analyzing the minutia of my memory so that I could get the car properly set up this weekend so I can dominate BSP and finally find my three seconds at the Pro next week."
Bren and BahnBaum codrove the Team WTF?! 325is in STX. They were a little disappointed with their 4th and 5th place finishes in class. bren had trouble adjusting to street tires and BahnBaum had trouble adjusting to not having a camera in his hands. They were probably both thrown a bit by some unknown changes to their rear toe. Nick was seen in the area, but it is not clear whether he had anything to do with it.
The Team WTF?! video camera was not in use this weekend due to a combination of several factnors...primarily that essential parts of it were left in Clyde's basement. Clyde also had the distinct honor of breaking his fourth torque wrench in less than three seasons. Imagine how many it would be if he didn't have a tire changing bitch at most events. :eeps:
