Team WTF?! would like to thank John Dacrema for his help in contributing photos from this past weekend’s event.  We got more cars than we otherwise would have.  Thanks, John!

WDCR 2006 Series Championship Event #6 was highlighted by an appearance of someone that is really going out of his way to prove Team WTF?! worthiness.  After receiving a last minute invitation late Saturday night, Terry Kennedy stopped by near the end of the fourth heat in his new Arial Atom.  (Those of you that left after the morning session sure did miss out!)  What makes it such a Team WTF?! thing is that after picking it up at the factory in Oregon a few weeks ago, he’s been taking the long way home, zigzagging and crisscrossing the country on his way home to New York…in a full face helmet complete with intercom to his GPS unit.  Despite repeated requests, Terry didn’t entertain us with some exhibition runs, but promises to come back to run in a future event!

Clyde pretends that he's Jeremy Clarkson in the Ariel Atom.

In A Street Prepared action, Bren had some trouble getting comfortable in his E46 M3 on the new-look course designed by Sammy Strano and turned in a disappointing 4th place finish. “I don’t know what happened out there.  It was like…I don’t know.  Maybe Nick touched my car when I wasn’t looking,” Bren said before returning to the paddock to break some tools.  Brian did better in Jason Becker’s M Coupe, coming in third, but was still a second and a half off the pace set by Junior Johnson’s Z06.

B Street Prepared saw one of the big upsets this weekend with Nick losing to Karen Kraus driving an A Stock STi in BSP.  Nick chocked on a half second’s worth of Karen’s dust to finish 3rd.  “Obviously, that STi is not legal for BSP.  It’s a STOCK car, damnit!  Excuse me, but I need to have some words with the car’s owner.  Who do I have to talk to to file some paper?” Nick asked as he stormed off the grid.  His cordriver, Bobbie, was suffering from yet another round of Nickstein Tuning, finishing in 4th more than a second behind Nick.

Ken pulled off an  impressive second place showing in his A Stock Boxster S, missing first place by a half second to the car that would beat Nick the following heat. “It was definitely an STi course,” Ken said later.  “That car beat Nick…Obviously, no one had a chance.”  His face was straight for about two seconds before Ken cracked.  He laughed so hard that he literally fell over.  But he continued laughing to the point that Team WTF?! members were worried that he may suffer internal injuries.  We wish him well.

Speaking of injuries, in the morning, Clyde thought that he had kissed off the day after being stung by a yellow jacket on the inside of his lip.  After watching John V teach some yellow jackets who was really boss, one of them got into Clyde’s Coke can.  When Clyde tried to take a sip, he could tell something was wrong, and then watched a yellow jacket fly out of his mouth.  Luckily, the swelling that ensued was only temporary and had totally subsided by the time B Stock ran in the fifth heat.

B Stock saw what turned out to be the battle of the day.  John V ripped off a 63.820 on his first run, but with a cone.  Clyde’s first run was a 63.822, clean.  On their next runs, John V cleaned it up, but slowed down a tad to 63.926.  Clyde sped up to a 63.795, but he picked up a cone.  For the first time all season, it looked like BS had a race where scratch times for the first four runs between John V and Clyde had only a 0.131 second spread.  Both drivers slowed down for the third runs.  On John V’s fourth run, he found a lot of speed and turned a 63.281, but he also found a cone at the end of the course.  With the victory clinched (and fourth runs being for pu$$ies anyway), Clyde took John V as a passenger on his last run and overdrove his overheated tires.  Also, as John V pointed out, Clyde didn’t exactly act like he intended on taking the slalom near the finish.  So, Clyde held out for just his second win of the year in the WDCR series.

Over in STX (the forgotten Team WTF?! class), BahnBaum showed up with a scratch time that would have been good for second place, but in true Team WTF?! form, he had to attach a cone to it and instead, came in 10th of 13. “Well, you see,” Alex said, “I knew that I had a great run going, but I didn’t want to embarrass anyone—because that’s the kind of guy I am—so with my exemplary precision driving abilities, I made sure to tag a cone.  It’s enough for me to know that I’m better than everyone else, except for Greg Olsen.  No one else needs to really know that right now.  Hey, you’re not going to quote me, right?”  Of course not, BahnBaum.  Of course not.

After Sunday’s event, some Team WTF?! drivers are sitting pretty for the season and some ain’t.

In BS, John V has clinched the series win and will take B Stock for the third straight year.  Clyde needs to beat David Wade at the final event to take second in class for the season.

In AS, Ken is locked in battle with our favorite Frenchman, Mr. Greg Obadia, and Larry Olsen.  Where AS winds up is anyone’s guess, but Ken is in the catbird seat needing only a second place finish to win the season championship.

BSP has an interesting battle brewing.  Assuming that Lee Piccione shows up at the final event, Bobbie has a mathematical chance at trying Lee for the BSP series win…he only has to beat Lee at the event to do it.  If Lee doesn’t show up, and Bobbie does, Bobbie will take the win.  Somewhere way down below that, Nick needs a 4th or better finish at the final event to ensure 3rd place for the season over Chuck or Tristan Edmondson.

Brian has a chance to win ASP with a victory at the final event.  Brem looks solid at third, but a bad day could leave the third place door open for Jason Becker.

In STX…well, perhaps it’s best if Team WTF?! just forgets about STX.
