Team WTF?! is a loose association of a handful of Washington, D.C. area autocrossers.  The name was hatched when two of the founding members were doing a course walk in the rain at the DC ProSolo in June 2004.

The Answer is the question.

Team WTF?! 25 Point Project Car Purchase Checklist PDF Print E-mail
Written by Team WTF?!

Have you ever wondered what it would take to make a car worthy of becoming a Team WTF?! project car?  After Nick bought a perfectly good E46 323i and turned it into a club racer, Bren bought a 1989 Z51 Corvette that “needs nothing but brake pads,” and Blee bought an E30 M3 that didn’t make it through its first autocross run with undamaged engine internals, we thought it was high time to draft a 25 point project car checklist:

  1. Sight unseen agreement to purchase?
  2. Engine misfire?
  3. Light body damage (including head scratching, “How could that have happened?” damage)?
  4. Extra set of wheels?
  5. Less than four round wheels of eight?
  6. Less than four road/track worthy tires of eight?
  7. Severely misaligned?
  8. Unidentified solid and semi-sold substances in cooling system?
  9. Very dark and very thick motor oil…but not much of it?
  10. Inoperative trunk/hatch release?
  11. Broken hood release cable?
  12. Non-latching hood?
  13. Big ass spiders living under hood?
  14. One and a quarter keys?
  15. Missing special tool?
  16. Peeling window tint?
  17. Uneven faded paint?
  18. Unable to start without assistance?
  19. Significant portion of total acquisition cost spent on fuel and tolls to retrieve it?
  20. “Anti-Lock” light lit on dash?
  21. Inoperative parking brake?
  22. Requires at least two tow vehicles to get it to a Team WTF?! garage?
  23. Unpaid parking tickets under seat?
  24. Seller assumes you are a professional mechanic?
  25. No clear plan on where to take the project?
  26. Totally f’ing stupid idea to buy?

The checklist was put to use for the first time this rainy past Saturday when Clyde and Bren went somewhere north of Detroit to pick something up, and we’re proud to say that it passed all 26 points on the 25 point checklist.  Details to come.
